HMW questions

Together with my group, we've thought of many “how might we” questions to help us steer in the right direction. Each of us thought of a few questions of what we thought the problem was or what we'd like to do.

I thought of the HMW questions below. I chose these because I felt like they fitted the best in what we researched about everything AI, ARG and more.

After each of us thought of a few questions, we'd pick the best ones or combine a few ones to two “final” question. We chose these two underneath because after talking with the group, we felt like a combination of these two would be the best to work with. At the end of the project we want to teach students about AI and how it can be used both positively and negatively but focus more on the negative side.

Why think of HMW questions

How might we questions sit exactly between the two diamonds. Essentially, you think of questions that fit the problem you've found. An example:

  • Problem: Users aren't aware of the full product offerings.
  • HMW: How might we increase awareness of the full product offerings?

As you can see from the example above, HMW questions always start with "How might we ...". By doing this, you start to think about a problem in a way that benefits the end user and in a way that works for the problem. More examples are:

  • How might we ensure more people pay their taxes before the deadline?
  • How might we help employees stay productive and healthy when working from home?
  • How might we make customers feel that their information is safe and secure when creating an account?

Using these questions you can start to think of some prototypes of solutions you thought of in the research phase of the double diamond.
